Abstract | Finite element modeling of low density, highly compressible, thermo plastic elastomeric (TPE) foam is a challenging task and it requires appropriate material data and various parameters to run the simulations without premature termination. For nonlinear, transient dynamic simulations, a commercially available CAE software LS-DYNA was used. For modeling of the foam projectile, a material model MAT_057 (MAT_LOW_DENSITY_FOAM) was considered. Finite element convergence study and various parameters of the material data for completing the simulation run without any errors are presented in this paper. |
Keywords | TPE foam; non-linear dynamic analysis; error termination; negative volume; termination; convergence |
