Abstract | Bamboo charcoal (BC) derived from bamboo plants is one kind of well recognized muti-functional materials which has various applications in medical, cosmetic, food processing and health-related products. In this paper, the comparison on the tensile and impact properties of a BC/Polylactic-acid (PLA) composite with a pure PLA sample is conducted. Experimental results indicated that the maximum tensile strength and ductility index of the BC/PLA composite increased by 43% and 52%, respectively as compared with the pure PLA sample. According to the results obtained, it was found that the addition of 7.5 wt% BC particles into PLA composite was shown to be the advisable reinforcement content to achieve better tensile and impact properties. |
