Abstract | The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching effects on society, the economy, and mental health. The service industry, particularly the hotel sector, has been severely impacted, leading to job insecurity and negative mental health outcomes, especially among women who face heightened uncertainty and increased unemployment concerns. This study aims to investigate the effect of economic challenges and job loss on female workers during the pandemic, focusing on perceived job insecurity. Through a survey of hotel employees, we examine how these factors interacted within the context of COVID-19. Our findings suggest that job uncertainty moderates the relationship between anxiety stemming from economic crises, unemployment, and mental health outcomes. The fear of COVID-19 indirectly links economic distress and mental health through the lens of employment instability. This study’s results provide insights for managers to better address job security and mental health challenges faced by female employees during a global recession. |
