Biography

Dr. Ya-Ling Huang has her Masters and PhD in Nursing, and is a registered nurse in Australia and overseas. She is a teaching and research academic in School of Nursing and Midwifery at University of Southern Queensland. She is currently a visiting research fellow at the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service(GCHHS), an adjunct research fellow at the Griffith University and an adjunct senior lecturer at Southern Cross University.

Previously, She has worked in various clinical settings (acute and subacute care areas) and clinical research in tertiary hospitals. She has also worked at different universities for undergraduate and postgraduate education. She has engaged in a number of services. This includes but not limited to multicultural network, GCHHS; emerging research alliance, GCHHS; reviewer for peer-review journals; nursing and midwifery professional recognition program (NMPRP) portfolio reviewer and advisory group, GCHHS; Gold Coast Health Research Week Committee; mid-career research representative in faculty of health research committee and executive committee of health services, clinical & community research group at Southern Cross University.

Expertise

Her research focus is on clinical research, nursing education and evidence-based practice. Specifically, the clinical research is relevant to palliative care, end-of-life care, chronic conditions, cultural and social influences and vulnerable populations (older people; people from culturally and linguistically diverse [CALD)] backgrounds) in acute care settings, including emergency department.

She has previously worked as a research coordinator and clinical nurse researcher (emergency department) at the Gold Coast Health and has successfully mentored clinicians and nursing students in clinical research and published in peer-review journals.

She is qualified as a Principal Supervisor for Higher Degree Research Candidates. She has supervised 10 Master of Osteopathic Medicine Students towards completion of their research projects. She is currently supervising Higher Degree Research Students.
