Abstract

Supervisor/student supervisions develop their own ecology and language based upon what each party brings to the 'practice' of supervision; some are highly effective and some are disastrous. In this chapter, Sarah and Janet discuss findings around the shifting supervisory relationship, in relation to Socrates, Paulo Friere, and Etienne Wenger. This chapter suggests that a successful practice-led PhD journey should culminate in an evolving community of practice that reflects the practices and discourses of practice-led research methodology.
