Abstract | Flying Arts Alliance (FAA) is a leading not-for-profit arts and cultural development organisation that has been delivering visual arts projects, programs, and services to regional and remote Queensland, in Australia for over 50 years. The University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) is an Australian regional university which was established in 1967. Though their partnership has now ended, 20 years ago the UniSQ senior administration recognised the value of partnering with FAA to further enrich its arts programs and community involvement in regional, rural, and remote (RRR) areas of Queensland. This occurred through various initiatives and research projects including the recent Connecting Arts to the School Curriculum (CASC) project funded through the John Villiers Trust and the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation and evaluated through UniSQ. The CASC project sought to investigate and strengthen the relationship between the classroom teacher, student, and artist in the generalist primary school. Recommendations from the project about advocacy, literacy and professional development informed the subsequent CASC model developed and trialled as part of the FAA Small Schools Program, both of which are the focus of this article. |
