Abstract | The centenary of the landing on Gallipoli will be the most significant commemoration in Australian history. This failed campaign, fought 16000 kilometres away, symbolises more than just our participation in the First World War and subsequent conflicts. Gallipoli spawned a sense of national consciousness which continues to inform a number of very deeply held convictions about who we are as a people and who we aspire to be. St Joseph's Nudgee College will mark the service and sacrifice of the 250 Old Boys who enlisted during the course of the conflict through a variety of initiatives. These will include this publication, a children's picture book, a museum display and the commission of a large textile artwork. |
