Abstract | Since 1999 when AG Hopkins articulated concerns of the neglect of the intersections between imperial and national history, there has been an increase in the scholarship that examines the historical interrelationships of subordinate components of empire. Robert Hogg's insightful work presents a convincing argument for the cross-referencing of colonial experience within the framework of understanding masculinity with his exploration of manly behaviour on the mid nineteenth century frontier in two seemingly different imperial provinces, Queensland and British Colombia. |
