Abstract | In order to continue to deliver high quality service while meeting the goals expected of them, asset managers are increasingly required to utilize advances like advanced information management systems, automated data collection, and the integration of a range of data types. Through a review of asset management systems and research undertaken into its use in building design organizations in South-East Queensland, Australia, the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) for life cycle sustainable asset management is discussed. The results of this research indicate that while there has been development of BIM and other advanced information systems in asset management, further work is required to fully achieve the potential for using these systems. Options for better facilitating this process include improved sharing of BIM models, interoperability between systems, improved training and having an Open BIM approach to facilitate its development |
