Abstract | [Abstract]: A resonant cavity method was employed to measure the ε″ of low loss thermoplastic composites e.g. 33% by weight glass fibre reinforced low density polyethylene [LDPE/GF (33%)]. The values of ε″ obtained by suspending the sample upright in the middle of the cavity were acceptable but the values of ε′ procured were far away from those obtained by other measuring methods, particularly at higher frequencies using WR159 and WR90. This paper describes the same method with the sample placing on the floor of the cavity. The sample thickness was also reduced to two-third of the original value. The values of Q factors procured by different methods were also compared and discussed. |
