Abstract | Music in higher education faces challenging times. The digital age has brought with it not only new technologies, but new ways of being. The music students at one regional university are increasingly influenced by and engaging with participatory culture and digital environments in both their musical and private lives. This has an impact on how students learn. It is incumbent upon music higher education to prepare students for portfolio careers in ways which engage students' prior learning and identities, and reflect the broader changes in society. This paper is based on a discussion at the 11th APPC and details the response of one regional Australian university to these issues. |
