Abstract | Despite numerous and longstanding guidelines and guidance materials to promote ethical engagement and research involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, in practice, many of these guides are not fully upheld. What is more, many collaborations fail to adequately incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and leadership from the start. This means Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are marginalised, and collaborations can become harmful rather than beneficial to the partners involved. This workshop discussion features speakers with experience in research collaborations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ethics committees, aged care and community engagement projects who will share their insights and expertise from the field. The workshop will include examples and reflections on how to improve the way we create these collaborations to ensure everyone benefits from the collaboration. |
