Abstract | Presenting lists of semantic associates in long-term memory tasks can induce the false recall of a related (non-presented) critical lure, referred to as the false memory effect (Roediger & McDermott, 1995). Recent findings have suggested that this effect may also extend to the short-term domain using tasks of immediate serial recall (ISR) (Tehan, 2010). Research now shows that short-term memory (STM), as measured by short-term recall tasks is influenced by permanent long-term memory (LTM) networks (Poirier, Dhir, Saint-Aubin, Tehan, & Hampton, 2011). STM and LTM have often been considered distinct systems (e.g. Baddeley, 1983, 2003). In contrast however, some researchers |
