Professional development seminar for teacher educators, in-service professionals and pre-service teachers.

Abstract

How can we prepare pre-service teachers for teaching literacy through digital and multimodal means? This presentation will present insights from an action research project where postgraduate pre-service teachers co-constructed multimodal texts with young children. Using Cope & Kalantzis’ (2015)
‘Learning by Design’ approach, we demonstrate how pre-service teachers ‘do to know’ (learn) about multiliteracies and the pedagogical and technological moves involved. We also discuss why this knowledge is important in the age of rapidly proliferating digital technologies, with a particular focus
on artificial intelligence and its potential impacts on literacy teaching and learning.
