Abstract | This chapter looks at possible features of a critical engagement with the question of what it means to know and of what a contribution to a critical social science might require. Drawing on provocations from Norm Denzin, Patti Lather and Brian Fay, the chapter also revisits a research project rooted in critical emancipatory aspirations from 15 years earlier and evaluates it against criteria of criticality. A theme running throughout the chapter is a response to Patti Lather's question: 'What does it mean to use other people's lives as data?'. |
