Abstract | Spectroscopic techniques have been widely used as rapid and non-destructive tools to evaluate the various internal quality attributes of fruits and vegetables. In this study, visible and near-infrared spectroradiometer (Vis/NIR) and full range spectroradiometer (FRs) were used to determine the quality level of sugarcane based on cross-sectional stalk scanning. Spectral data were collected from 100 fresh samples representing ten different sugarcane varieties. Each same was cut into three sections; bottom, middle and top. Each section was scanned using both spectroradiometers. After preprocessing treatment, Partial Least Squares (PLS) method was used to interpret the spectra and develop both calibration and prediction models for quality components. The best section of the stalk for the optimum scanning was identified. The correlation coefficient (r2) for Brix, Pol, CCS and fiber predicted by the Vis/NIR were 0.68, 0.71, 0.70 and 0.56, respectively. The r2 for Brix, Pol, CCS and fiber as predicted by the FRs were 0.76, 0.76, 0.81 and 0.68, respectively. The results |
