Abstract	Introduction: Clinical supervision has been identified as an important means of maintaining standards of patient care while developing the competence and knowledge of occupational therapists. Despite this, there is minimal evidence regarding the effectiveness of clinical supervision for occupational therapists particularly in non-mental health practice domains (e.g., adult physical, paediatrics). Objectives: To determine perceptions of Queensland Health supervisee occupational therapists working across a range of practice domains regarding the effectiveness of clinical supervision received and factors that influence this effectiveness. Method: A survey was mailed to 850 Queensland Health occupational therapists. Included was a demographic form, the Manchester Clinical Supervision Scale (MCSS) and open ended questions regarding supervision practices. Results: The demographic form and MCSS were completed by 207 occupational therapists (response rate 24%). The overall MCSS scores ranged from 19 to 101 (mean 74.6; SD 13.3; range 82) indicating that Queensland Health occupational therapists received effective supervision as measured by the MCSS. Choice of supervisor, availability of another clinician on-site to provide support, frequency and length of supervision sessions were found to have the largest associations with the perceived effectiveness of supervision received (rs = 0.11, rs = 0.02, rs = 0.3, rs = 0.17 respectively). Conclusion: While Queensland Health occupational therapists across a broad range of practice domains perceive that they generally receive effective supervision, there are factors associated with effective supervision that could improve clinical supervision and could be incorporated into clinical supervision training for occupational therapy supervisors. As occupational therapy practice is regulated nationally, these results can potentially influence supervision practices across Australia.
