Abstract | Peace building comes from individuals in the community working together and supporting each other through dialogue and trust at a local level to create a more civil society. Moral courage is often a key component of this. The role of the individual (and a woman) in bringing the issue of peace to the forefront in a democracy, at the community level, can provide for an invigorating experience in personal growth. The United Nations Security Council has acknowledged that women are vital in any peacemaking enterprise. 2010 was the 10th anniversary of the U.N. Resolution which finally adopted a policy to encourage the presence of women on all peace projects. This paper reflects on what that experience can be like for a woman at the community level. |
