Abstract | This chapter broadly introduces the topic of critical thinking and provides a general overview of how the cognitive science of critical thinking is important in higher education. The chapter examines heuristics, biases and faulty critical thinking in general and outlines the specifics of research on heuristics, biases and critical thinking from a psychological science perspective. The chapter outlines ways to overcome biases in thinking and discusses how the results from psychological science research on critical thinking can be used specifically in a higher education context to inform practice in learning and teaching. |
