Abstract | Teachers in schools are constantly challenged by change and implementing innovative educational approaches to meet the needs of their students and the requirements of stakeholders. This book presents a careful selection of contemporary research into different ways in which researchers and teachers navigate the complex process of integrating new approaches to educational practice based on educational research based within the school system. The introductory chapter puts the case for the book, provides a brief review of the literature and provides the background to the researcher chapters which have been chosen to illustrate in more detail some of the tensions faced by teachers and researchers in the field. It also provides the reader with personal reflections of the editors about their own encounters with these problems whilst carrying out their own research in order to help demonstrate practically the nature of the difficulties. For example, the problems and challenges currently facing researchers in conducting research, including ethics, processes for gaining permissions from school systems and access to students/classrooms. It considers the perspectives of schools and teachers who face the impositions of research with a range of outcomes that may or may not be able to be applied or implemented in the face of complex policy and procedural requirements. |
