Abstract

We believe there is indeed a common starting point in successful school capacity building. We say this because, regardless of circumstances, the processes of enhancing and sustaining school success meet six common criteria, the first of which is the same 'elementary truth' that mountaineer W. H. Murray described as essential to embarking successfully on any serious 'act of initiative'-that is, a firm decision to commit. But knowledge of how to start a process of school revitalization is vague in the minds of many school leaders. We begin our exploration of the committing to revitalization dynamic with a snapshot description of a school that captured the essence of this C-B dynamic and proceeded to achieve and sustain enhanced school capacity.
