Abstract | Analysis of Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) data is performed to identify the effects on the mixture fraction probability density function (pdf) of the evaporation region. For the current conditions, the initial droplet field comprises half the initial volume and a spark is used to evaporate and ignite the core of the droplet field. It is found that there is a potentially significant influence on the overall mixture fraction pdf due to the major evaporation region of the droplets. Furthermore, there is a smaller but potentially significant influence on the overall pdf due to the leading edge of the evaporation region. The near-field evaporation field surrounding the droplets can also be significant. |
