Abstract | This article considers the extent to which voting equality is and could be constitutionally protected in Australia. Parliaments in Australia often contain disproportionate numbers of electors in electorates, raising questions about malapportionment, and the extent to which this is in conflict with the constitutional requirement of Australia as a representative democracy. |
Keywords | representative democracy, equality, malapportionment, gerrymander, one vote one value, right to vote, political communication |
