Abstract | Students in Years 5 to 9 are increasingly expected to create multimodal texts across a range of contexts, including in different curriculum areas. It is therefore important that middle years students are adept at applying a range of modes throughout their text construction - not just language/linguistic mode, but also aural/sound, gestural/embodiment, spatial/composition and visual/image. This practical strategies section explores the significance of the engagement of middle years students with diverse multimodal texts. It also offers a rationale for explicit teaching around knowledge and skills for utilising a range of modes when students construct or compose multimodal texts when using iPad applications. |
