Abstract | When working with team sports it is common for strength and conditioning coaches to be confronted with extremely large player numbers in the weight room. It is then the strength and conditioning coach realises the critical role that planning plays in program design to achieve sequential flow on the weight room floor. This presentation will outline key elements related to the ‘science’ (scientific foundation of coaching) and ‘art’ (putting science into practice) of managing large groups in the weight room. This includes: Conceptualising your approaches to planning; Fundamental principles dealing with large groups; Sequential flow in the weight room; Safety considerations; Exercise selection and non-traditional exercises; and Best worst-case scenario. Most importantly, navigating the weight room with large groups is not simply about the science or the art, but successfully combine these approaches to ensure safe execution |
