Abstract | Advancements in digital health technologies and wearable devices are transforming data collection practices related to athlete performance and well-being. Such technologies offer innovative solutions to the complex interplay between training, fatigue, recovery, and competition readiness. This presentation explores the integration of digital health innovations in high-performance sport, and insights into Australia’s evolving digital sport technology as the global leader in the sector. Technologies such as online programming and monitoring software, GPS microtechnology, sleep tracking devices, velocity-based training systems, and athlete monitoring platforms will be presented and provide data-driven insights into workload, fatigue management, injury prevention, and recovery optimisation. Essential to this the process is understanding of the Fitness-Fatigue Continuum Model as a framework for optimising physical and psychological readiness with three key considerations unpacked. Emerging research examining circadian rhythms and sleep architecture will be explored, highlighting the impact of travel, competition schedules, and sleep disturbances on athlete performance. Finally, future trends and novel technology in athlete monitoring such as pupillometry and artificial intelligence offer digital advances for assessing athlete readiness. It is also important that practitioners understand data privacy, data usage and data rights. By leveraging digital health innovations, sports scientists, coaches, and medical staff can enhance athlete preparation and drive elite sport performance improvements into the future. |
