Abstract | The term pyramid is very much synonymous with those built in the ancient Egypt. However, it should be noted that other significantly important and large pyramids with similar features were also constructed independently in other parts of the world. The pyramids of Teotihucan (pronounced Teo–tee–wa-can) in Mexico at almost 15000 kilometers away from Egypt are some of the examples. As far as we know, there were no possible contacts between the two civilizations. It is also a mystery why the ancient civilizations built these huge constructions. Were they burial facilities, places of worship or structures, which rose high to the sky in an attempt (perhaps) to reach and get closers to the (heavens)? |
