Description of Exhibition/Event

Busted (2015) is a collaborative project between St Vincent’s Private Hospital, St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital and USQ. The project involved a film documentary and artworks by emerging Queensland artists that raises Breast Cancer awareness through personal stories of survivorship within the Toowoomba community. This involved Breast Cancer survivors and artists working together, sharing stories with this unique exchange process being recorded on film. This process was a new learning experience as each Breast Cancer survivor had their bust cast as a sculptural work that involved an artistic response to the shared story. This was complimented by each survivor being interviewed on film. Through engaging in oral histories, the artworks mark a legacy of the individual experience as well the new understanding gained from its very process. This exchange of knowledge deepened the relationship between arts and health in Toowoomba. The opening was a high profile event for the region and was attended by local state politicians and Toowoomba Regional Council members.
