Abstract | This article is the transcript of the 2018 Sam Power Oration, presented by Robyn Henderson in Toowoomba, Queensland, on 18 October, 2018. This biennial event is organised by the Australian College of Educators (ACE) in memory of Sandra (Sam) Power, who was a teacher and researcher, as well as an active member of ACE, the Australian Literacy Educators’ Association (ALEA) and the English Teachers Association of Queensland (ETAQ).
