| Abstract | Construction safety is often overlooked but is critical for successful site operations, especially in developing countries, where accidents and fatalities are common. The authors of this study conducted a cost–benefit analysis of construction safety and identified 33 key barriers and safety costs through expert evaluation and a literature review. By surveying 162 construction experts, the authors calculated the cost implications of safety practices and demonstrated the tangible and intangible benefits of safety implementation. The results highlight a clear connection between safety barriers and safety investments, paving the way for better safety performance in developing countries’ construction industries. Suggesting allocating 2.5%–3% of project costs for safety provisions, the study’s authors provide an economic rationale for construction companies to prioritize safety. |
