Abstract | Every operation that an enterprise engages in requires information. Without adequate information quality, the operation may not result in a quality outcome. The current Operations Management (OM) techniques are activity-based techniques. These techniques answer the question “what other activities must be completed before the start of the current activity?” The newly developed Information Quality (IQ) theory directs OM researchers and practitioners to answer two very different questions: “What information is needed from other activities before completing the existing one? [8] ” and “what type of quality is needed for the required information?” Mapping the information flow can be used to answer the first question. The second question can only be answered if the IQ dimensions are adequately identified and understood. This work also argues the OM researchers must develop techniques that consider the advantages of both modelling and descriptive methodologies. |
