Abstract | Accountability to beneficiary stakeholder groups of nonprofit organisations is frequently referred to as downwards accountability. Framed through accounting’s neo-liberal lens which privileges certain stakeholder groups, beneficiaries are typically less powerful and less able to hold nonprofit organisations to account. Adopting a critical perspective, this research seeks to empower beneficiary stakeholder groups to hold nonprofit organisations to account, through the development of participatory evaluation frameworks for use within nonprofit organisations. |
