Abstract | In thesis by publication, doctoral candidates publish academic papers in peer-reviewed journals that are then logically collated into a single thesis at the end. Therefore thesis by publication is characterised by the division of tasks into short phases of work and frequent adaptation of plans—that is, the “agile” way of completing doctoral study. Incorporating reflections of a doctoral supervisor and three theses by publication doctoral candidates, this chapter explores how the students’ agile doctoral journeys can prepare them for postdoctoral careers. Furthermore, this chapter presents some strategies from the perspective of doctoral supervisors based on agile principles that can be incorporated by doctoral students to complete their thesis by publication journey. |
