Abstract | A collaboration between the Petroleum Insitute of Abu Dhabi and the University of Southern Queensland is leading to the construction of an underwater inspection vehicle, the Turtle. The design has profited from many earlier projects and is in the form of a six-legged machine with paddles on the legs. This will enable it to 'swim' to a location and alight onto a stable surface for steady monitoring of vision. Although funds have been made available for its construction, there is still debate over actuation details. Alternatives are presented. |
