Abstract | This study examined the role that satisfaction of three types of basic needs played in explaining two types of motivation to participate in development opportunities. Within Self-Determination Theory (SDT), the satisfaction of intrinsic needs for autonomy, competence and relatedness is considered to be critical in the development of more autonomous types of motivation.
