Biography
Seyum Getenet is an experienced mathematics teacher educator with extensive research and teaching experience, course and unit coordination at various levels. Seyum’s main research interests are in STEM education, mathematics curriculum and pedagogy, with a strong focus on initial teacher education informed by design-based research. He has a commencing track record of published refereed journal articles and conference papers in teacher and mathematics education. In particular, he has published a peer-reviewed article on professional development strategies for mathematics teachers in Australia. Seyum has a special interest in mathematics pedagogical content knowledge to frame mathematics teachers’ teaching in schools. He has adopted several theories of knowledge for teaching mathematics and wrote a paper that proposed a framework for the knowledge required to teach technology-integrated mathematics teaching. Seyum accepts and supervises higher-degree students in STEM, mathematics and teacher education.
