Abstract | [Abstract]: This paper analyses the International Human Resource Management (IHRM) approaches that German multinational enterprises (MNEs) employ when transferring human resource policies and practices from German Headquarters (HQ) to their subsidiaries in Asia. The exploratory study uses an analysis of twenty four in depth interviews with Human Resource directors and line managers in German Fortune Global 500 industrial companies from -electrical, mechanical and chemical- industries and their subsidiaries. The results indicate that companies seem to differentiate when they are implementing an IHRM approach by strategic importance per issue. Country or subsidiary best practice is usually not integrated in HQ policies. |
