Abstract | This chapter initially sets out to explain and clarify a number of relevant concepts and terms in the context of international management and leadership. This is followed by a brief exploration of the environment of international management and leadership, the role of international management and the requisite skills and attributes to fulfil these roles. A discussion of the increasing importance of cross-cultural leadership completes the first part of this chapter. Notwithstanding the increasing demands on international management and leadership, recent evidence unequivocally supports the notion that, to ensure continued success, international companies and business leaders must cultivate a global mindset. Accordingly, this chapter is concluded by identifying the need for a global mindset, arguing why mindset matters, indicating how global mindsets are developed, emphasising the importance of mindset in cross-cultural leadership and explaining how the new breed of global managers are to be socialised for the successful management of multinational enterprises in the 21st century |
