Abstract | This chapter contributes to this anthology about learning to research and researching to learn in higher education by exploring one approach to researching to learn enacted by a group of postgraduate students and early career researchers at one Australian university. This group constitutes an informal learning community whose members support one another in developing research success and in the ongoing processes of being and becoming effective researchers. Indeed, the community is now in its 11th year as a group with the same continuing name, although during that period it has experienced considerably varied membership. Yet the author also highlights potentially dynamic tensions between individual empowerment and institutional socialisation in relation to the group members. |
