Abstract | ‘Travellers’ refers to a large number and a wide variety of individuals and groups who for reasons of *culture/ethnicity, lifestyle and/or occupation are mobile for most or all of their lives or for different parts of the year. ‘Travellers’ is a term used mostly in Europe, and includes Gypsy Travellers, Irish and Scottish Travellers, Roma (Gypsy Travellers from Eastern Europe), New (Age) Travellers and members of bargee, circus and fairground communities. ‘Migrants’ is used in Central America and the southern states of the United States to denote seasonal agricultural workers. ‘Nomads’ is applied in Africa and Asia to fisherpeople and pastoralists. |
