Abstract | Attention has been given to the growing pressure on academics working in contemporary university systems across the globe to produce research outputs at increasing speeds and intensities. From this perspective, the academic institution produces multiple tensions and moments of crises, where it seems that there is limited space left for the intrinsic enjoyment arising from scholarly practices. The civilized sense of academic activity taking place 'in the groves of academe' is far removed from the realities of contemporary pressures. |
