| Abstract | Chapters 6 and 11 of this book have used Play with Purpose ((PWP) to demonstrate how this pedagogical approach can develop game sense through volleyball and touch football. This chapter will leave the pedagogy of PWP to these chapters. Here, we use PWP as having features of a game-based approach (GBA) to highlight that GBAs are not limited to teaching styles that are exclusively inquiry based (; SueSee et al., 2016). This chapter will consider the connection between year (Grade) level bands in the Australian Curriculum – Health and Physical Education (AC: HPE) and the aligned cluster of teaching styles when using a GBA. We use the Spectrum of Teaching Styles (the Spectrum) as a lens to view the achievement standards from the AC: HPE. As in many curriculum frameworks for physical education at each year level, the verb directing cognitive behaviour of students changes in a way that is aligned with a progression in Bloom's taxonomy. |
