Abstract | The role of the coach when adopting Small Group Coaching is most evident in the pre-impact set of decision-making that relates to the player’s roles and/or entry challenge point for the task. Mosston originally called this style ‘use of the small group’. Although originally describing this style as ‘The Use of a Small Group’, later Mosston described Style E as the Inclusion Style. A concept for coaches to consider when using Small Group Coaching: Style E is the Challenge Point Framework. This framework is premised on the benefits of ‘appropriate’ failure when the objective is learning. Small Group Coaching in Baseball could be used for batting. Small Group Coaching Style can often be observed in outdoor adventure settings. Groups are required to fulfil a range of roles to complete a task that may have multiple entry points for successfully achieving an outcome. The Small Group Style of coaching could be applied to a beginner cricket episode to meet many objectives. |
