Abstract | The concept of empowerment was introduced into accounting education research by Zraa et al. (2011). The authors’ purpose is to compare traditional educational environment in Libya with collaborative education in Australia and how these affect the students’ perceptions of empowerment in accounting courses. The research also investigates the relationship of empowerment with classroom instruction. This study involved a survey of 409 students who were studying the first year of business degree institutions in Libya and Australia. Data were analysed using reliability tests, factor analysis, t-tests and correlations. The results indicate that Australian students are more empowered than Libyan students. The difference may attribute to culture impact and classroom instruction. In addition, the result revealed that classroom instruction methods influence student empowerment. |
