Abstract | While the value of social resources are well known within the organization behaviour literature, the complementary and concurrent effects of combining social resources (SR) remain a matter of conjecture especially in the psychology literature. Although the conservation of resources (COR) literature has made more transparent the spiralling effect of resources over time including how resource caravans potentially lead to greater performance outcomes, study outcomes are equivocal as to how SRs combine in ways that lead to increased employee engagement beyond their more sequential effects. In the current paper, we studied the effects of SC resources on the positive work engagement of 273 Australian workers using structural equation modelling. Our preliminary study found that social support, social capital and workplace inclusion have concurrent effects as resource caravans in terms of increasing positive employee engagement helping to broaden COR theory by adding a more nuanced understanding of the effects of social resources. |
